Western Red Cedar cladding

What cedar cladding do you sell?

We sell three Western Red Cedar cladding profiles: Shiplap, Tongue & Groove and Loglap. We can also mill waney edge cladding and custom profiles to order.

What is the difference between shiplap, tongue and groove and loglap cladding?

Shiplap has an overlapping profile and is popular on garden rooms and extensions. Tongue and groove gives a smooth, flush finish that suits modern builds. Loglap has a bold, rounded face that recreates the look of a traditional log cabin.

What sizes does your cedar cladding come in?

All three profiles (shiplap, tongue and groove, and loglap) come in four standard lengths: 1.5m, 2.4m, 3.6m and 4.8m. Our shiplap boards are 18mm thick with a 120mm face width once fitted. If you need different lengths or sizes, get in touch and we can cut to your requirements. See our cedar cladding page for full details.

How much does Western Red Cedar cladding cost?

Shiplap and tongue and groove cladding start from £10.12 per 1.5m board, which works out at about £6.75 per linear metre. Loglap starts from £10.80 per 1.5m board, about £7.20 per linear metre. Shiplap prices by length are £10.12 (1.5m), £16.20 (2.4m), £24.30 (3.6m) and £32.40 (4.8m). All prices include VAT.

How much cladding do I need?

For shiplap with a 120mm face width, you need about 8.4 linear metres of board per square metre of wall. Add around 10% for cuts and waste. For example, a 10m² wall needs roughly 92 linear metres of shiplap, which costs about £620 including VAT, before any delivery charge. For an exact quantity, email us your wall area in m² and we will work it out for you.

Why choose Western Red Cedar for cladding?

Western Red Cedar contains natural oils that help it resist rot, decay, moisture and insects. It is light, stable and good-looking, and it does not need chemical treatment to last outdoors.

Does cedar cladding need to be treated?

No. Western Red Cedar does not need any chemical treatment. If you leave it untreated it will slowly weather to a soft, silver-grey driftwood colour. If you want to keep its warm red-brown tone, apply a UV-protective oil or stain.

How do I install cedar cladding?

Fix cedar cladding with stainless steel fixings. Ordinary steel nails and screws can react with the timber and leave dark stains. Leave a ventilated gap behind the boards, usually by fixing them to battens, so air can flow and the timber stays dry.

Can I use cedar cladding on a log cabin, garden room or extension?

Yes. Our cedar cladding is used on garden rooms, log cabins, sheds, extensions, house walls and timber-frame self-builds. Loglap is a popular choice for a traditional log cabin look, while shiplap and tongue and groove suit modern designs.

Where does your cedar come from?

All of our timber, including our Western Red Cedar, is sustainably sourced from within the UK. If you need sourcing details for a planning application or building project, contact us and we will help.

Do you offer cladding samples?

We do not send samples as standard, but please get in touch. We are happy to help you choose the right cladding profile before you place an order.

Can you cut timber to size or supply other species?

Yes. We cut cladding, fencing, balustrades and timber frames to custom sizes. Western Red Cedar is our main timber, but we can source other species for specific projects. Contact us with your requirements for a quote.
